A choice of service, clients are soon to be provided with a choice between pure water technology or traditional window cleaning methods

Choice of Service

At Shining Windows, we think your choice is our mission. We will soon be adding the choice of service at your request. Some clients prefer a traditional method being used, others prefer new pure water technology. The choice will soon be the customers, this optional choice is going to be added to our online products....

The differences are;

Water Fed Pole Window Cleaning
Water fed pole window cleaning, otherwise known as pure water window cleaning is where the minerals and impure elements of normal water have been removed to enable purified water to be used to clean windows.

Operated from ground level, deionised water is pumped from a tank in the back of a vehicle, up a long pole to a series of nozzles with a brush. A constant stream of water and the movement of the brush will agitate the dirt off the glass. The constant water is then used to rinse the glass enabling the window to dry smear free.

The Benefits of Water Fed Poles

  1. Environmentally friendly because windows are cleaned using purified water and there are no detergents or chemicals used. Also, the water that falls from windows has no toxicity and therefore there is no damage to surrounding plants or animals.

  2. Safer method because the water-fed poles are operated from ground level. When using a ladder there are risks associated with falls from height to both the window cleaner and other people in the area.

  3. Compliant with Health and Safety Legislation. Ladders were a major cause of workplace injuries and deaths so in 2005 the HSE updated The Work at Height Directive placing greater responsibility on both the service provider and the person overseeing window cleaning to ensure a safer service is carried out. For those concerned about the health and safety risks associated with window cleaning, opting for the safer method of window cleaning using water fed poles reduces that risk and the potential for litigation.

  4.  More efficient. There is no need for the window cleaner to climb up and down a ladder so it therefore takes less time. Using water fed poles is also quicker on large panes of glass because the window cleaner only uses one piece of equipment that produces a smear free finish, as opposed to a squeegee and an applicator in traditional methods.

  5. More cost effective method. Water-fed poles operatives are more productive than traditional window cleaners and therefore cleaning takes less time leading to lower costs. There is also no need to hire access equipment such as scaffolding or mobile elevated platforms.

  6. Less Intrusive. Because water fed poles are operated by standing on the ground it means there is more privacy and less disturbance for building occupants when compared to a traditional window cleaner climbing a ladder.

Traditional Window Cleaning
The traditional approach to cleaning windows requires a detergent, an applicator, a squeegee to take off the excess water and for buildings above ground level a set of ladders. This naturally requires a greater level of skill to achieve the desired effect and is usually practiced by individuals who have apprenticed and then worked to develop their craft. Whilst you may think that traditional methods have been largely unsurpassed by water fed poles, there are plenty of instances where it is more appropriate to use and most window cleaning businesses now offer a mix of both methods.

Benefits of Traditional Window Cleaning
  1. Ability to clean the inside of windows. It is not just the outside of windows that need cleaning and obviously water fed poles would produce far too much water for indoors.  If a building needs the inside of the windows cleaned it would be better to use a company that provide a service using both traditional and water-fed pole methods

  2. Better Results on Builders Cleans. For windows that have never or rarely been cleaned, by having your windows cleaned by someone on a ladder, you can probably get a better result because the operative can identify stains or difficult bits of dirt that require more work. For example, hard to reach areas like the corners of window frames can be cleaned better from a ladder. Water-fed Pole operators often can’t see the window clearly resulting in windows that need a more rigorous clean being missed.

  3. Better Results on Buildings with Older Frames. Particularly on older buildings where you may have issues such as ageing window frames or a little cracked glass here and there, traditional cleaning allows a more considered and careful approach. With water fed poles it is often difficult to take great care when dealing with a ‘fragile’ area.

  4. Lower Carbon Footprint. Traditional window cleaning produces a lower carbon footprint because there is no need for;
  • Power to operate the filtration process required for water fed poles
  • Power to pump water to the poles
  • Large vehicle to transport 400 litre or 600 litre water tanks to carry the water required for water fed poles window cleaning.

Commercial Window Cleaning

Pure Water

Picture
Some of you may have seen commercial window cleaners cleaning windows with a water fed pole then leave the window to dry.  To some it may seem that window cleaners are just using normal tap water to rinse the windows and leaving the water to dry.  I've heard some people question the effectiveness of such practice and wonder if this method really cleans windows.

At Shining Windows, we provide the highest quality of window cleaning that we possibly can by using traditional window cleaning methods and  modern pure water.  I like to take the time in this post to explain the use of pure water and why it can benefit everybody.

If you use regular tap water to clean a window and do not wipe it dry then deposits are left on the glass, this is because of the naturally occurring minerals in our drinking water such as calcium, sodium, iron and copper are left on the glass.

Water spots on glass and cleaning without purified water
White spots on glass left by un-purified water
The picture above shows what will happen if you leave regular tap water to dry on glass and can be difficult to remove, often needing a deep clean to return it to normal clean clear glass.  As a window cleaner I often see windows in gardens, windows next to hanging baskets and conservatories with these white spots on them after the house owner has watered plants and the water from the hose has been left to dry on the window.  This is what window cleaners work hard to avoid.

Window cleaners purify there water using a method called reverse osmosis. Using a reverse osmosis machine that cleans the water through a combination of filters the water is purified to the point were no deposits will be left on the windows.  Water is usually made in a lock up that the window cleaner owns, they have a reverse osmosis system that can produce thousands of litres of water a day, this set-up can often cost thousands but window cleaners know the benefits.
Picture
Why do window cleaners go to all this effort to clean windows when the traditional methods appear much easier and more cost effective?  Well there are two strong reasons.  The first is safety, by using pure water and a water fed pole a window cleaner and clean windows without the risk of falling off a ladder.  Secondly by using pure water and a water fed pole the window cleaner can clean those difficult windows that have never been possible to clean such as the ones above a conservatory or on the side of a house with no room to put a ladder.

At Shining Windowswe use both traditional and pure water commercial windows cleaning methods to provide the best service we can to our clients. If you would like to discuss pure water any more then please don't hesitate to contact us or ask us next time we are cleaning your property.

Commercial Window Cleaning Milton Keynes

Commercial Window Cleaning Milton Keynes

  • Clean windows make a huge difference to the atmosphere and ambiance of any space. Whether it is your commercial window cleaning is for a shop, office, school or any other business, it will always feel better when your windows are clean.
  • Dirty windows make people feel gloomy; clean windows make people feel fresh and alert. It is like the difference between night and day.
  • Clean windows let in more light and light enhances how we feel. Too little light makes people feel depressed, especially in winter. Most of us feel better when the sun shines. Seasonal Affective Disorder, appropriated shortened to SAD affects thousands of people in winter who fail to get enough light. The best cure is a trip to sunnier climes, but just ensuring that your windows are clean can help.
  • When the sun shines brightly, dirty windows look terrible as all the dust, grime and marks are highlighted. They look far worse in the sun than they do in the gloom. When they are clean they let the sun shine in. in fact even moderately dirty windows can block out 20 percent of sunlight at any time, it is just more readily apparent when the sun shines directly on them.
  • Dirty windows give customers the impression that you simply don’t care about your business, and if you don’t care for your business then you’re unlikely to care for them. And if you don’t care for them, why should they car for you? They would rather go somewhere else where the windows are clean and where they can expect a warm welcome.
  • Would you like to work in an office with dirty windows? We thought not. Dirty windows at work make the day seem far too long. Back in Victorian days cleaning factory windows was virtually unheard of and many people slaved from dawn to dusk barely able to see out and very little light was allowed in. In our more liberated times there is no excuse, so make sure that your office windows are kept clean.
  • Having your windows cleaned is like a new dawn, a new start. Transforming those dirty streaked semi-opaque panes of glass to ones you can actually see through, rather than just see, is a transformation.
  • Clean windows are like a glass half full; dirty windows are like a glass half empty. The last things you want are pessimistic customers. Optimistic customers are likely to feel far more favourable about your product or service and thus more likely to buy. Clean windows result in happy customers.
Nobody in the world, or at least nobody we’ve ever heard of, prefers dirty windows to clean windows. Then why would they given all of what we have written above. In every way clean windows are an improvement on dirty ones.

We love to see dirty windows that we can clean and let the light in for our customers.  With local commercial window cleaners in milton keynes, we get ample opportunity to do so. We use water fed poles, traditional window cleaning techniques, mobile platforms, we even go abseiling down tall buildings just to get the windows clean. We have a passion for it, so why not give us a call? or look at our online services.
